MDW Mobile is a wireless data collection tool that is designed to support comprehensive asset tracking and management for municipalities. The mobile application is fully integrated to the MDW web-based data repository, which is being used by hundreds of municipalities across the country to streamline their asset management practices.

Allegro Mobile Solutions has been working in close partnership with ASI Technologies and OGRA to produce MDW Mobile. Developed utilizing Allegro’s core product, The Allegro Mobility Platform, MDW Mobile enables users to securely collect and upload asset data, as well as capture images and GPS coordinates. The application provides efficiency in data collection and reporting, enhancing the ability of municipalities to manage assets, extend asset lifecycles and meet PSAB reporting requirements.
MDW Mobile has been designed to run on Motorola’s industry leading MC75. The MC75 is a rugged, feature rich mobile device which runs Windows Mobile 6 and includes a barcode scanner, digital camera, touch screen, GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, 3G cellular capabilities and more.
Key Functionality
Asset Creation
Users can enter a new asset by simply pressing the add asset button. This gives field users the ability to select the type of asset to be added via a combination of pull-down menus and fields for entry of asset ID, Name, Status, Dimensions, Material and other attributes specific to the asset type.
Asset Modification
Once an asset is registered, field-users can edit the status fields on the handheld device to reflect the current condition of an asset. Assets to be edited can be quickly found on the handheld through a search by asset ID, name or address. Administrators are able to gain an in-depth understanding of asset condition for effective planning and maintenance.
Image Capture
Utilizing the built-in high resolution camera on the Motorola MC75, users are able to capture images of assets and associate these images to asset IDs existent within the MDW database. Administrators now have a visual record of the asset.
Asset Location
MDW Mobile incorporates an intelligent geo-coder which utilizes GPS technology to assign co-ordinates to assets. Street names and segments are generated by the pre-populated pull down menu, enabling quick documentation. This valuable information can allow field-users to more accurately manage assets as well as utilize the data with third party GIS applications.
Asset Inspection
Utilizing the extensive set of pre-programmed categories and fields, users are able to enter data that accurately reflects the current condition of specific assets directly into the MDW Mobile inspection form. The asset portfolio can now be modified to present an up-to date account of asset inventory and other portfolio components.
Integration
The MDW database is synchronized to the mobile device via a host PC. The MDW data repository is based on a common standard to assist municipalities in meeting asset management and reporting requirements and provides aggregate data to guide investment and capital needs forecasting decisions.
Auto Update
Each time a device synchronizes with the host PC it checks for a software update from the server. If a new version is available, the user can choose to apply the update with one simple step.
